Participation and performance trends in multistage ultramarathons–the ‘Marathon des Sables’ 2003- 2012
We examined the development of the participants and their performance at the Marathon des SABLES ‘between 2003 and 2012. Of the 7,275 finishers were 12.9% women.Men ran the route much faster than the women.The difference between the sexes with 31.7 ± 2.0% was very high compared to previous results. The men’s race has been dominated by runners in the region in recent years with 9 victories by Moroccans and 1 victory through a Jordanian.For the women, on the other hand, Europeans dominated with 5 victories through French, 2 victories through Luxembourgers and 1 victory through a Spaniard.
