Men more often experience a drop in performance over long distances than women. This is often due to how they start. One of Switzerland’s biggest endurance events is currently taking place in Thun: the Ironman Switzerland. Around 2,300 athletes are fighting for every minute over 3.8 kilometres of swimming, 180 kilometres of cycling and a full marathon. Fittingly, there are new findings from the University of Zurich on long-distance running, which they have now published in the journal “Scientific Reports.”
